The Area
The Shunt is the industrial district of the city. The sky here is a perpetual orange, a result of the corrosive chemicals used in the vast swaths of manufacturing plants. Towering, twisted, and rusted metal structures claw their way towards the sky. Giant concrete warehouse crowd the ground, housing data centres, power plants, and various manufacturing facilities. The Shunt has not seen rainfall since the construction of The Pit, the mild angle of ground resulted in all water draining from the area into the quarry. With no water left to evaporate, and thus no future rainfall, The Shunt remains a place devoid of organic life.
Through the centre of The Shunt an enormous railroad track cuts through the terrain, connecting The Terminal to The Lab. This track facilitates the operation of the armoured cargo train that transports materials from The Terminal to be used in construction at The Lab.
The Inhabitants
The various facilities that populate The Shunt are run entirely autonomously. This, combined with the prolonged and unending drought result in the only known inhabitants being simulants. They are primarily used for the transport of waste, collection of goods, and maintenance of infrastructure, as well as facilitating the function of the various factories.
